Teaching Philosophy

Discover & reach every student’s personal goals

My teaching philosophy, most simply put, is to meet the student where he or she is and to tailor lessons based on the student’s individual needs and personal goals.  I strongly believe in the importance of maintaining a positive attitude, while creating a healthy, rigorous, musical environment where my students can thrive.  Through problem-solving and observing without making negative judgments, students will not only develop their musical abilities, but will also develop resiliency and grit through music education.  Determination, focused work ethic, and a positive attitude is the recipe for a successful journey, in music and in life.

I have had success teaching students of all ages; I teach and coach adults, middle school and high school students as well as undergraduates, and chamber groups.  I especially enjoy helping students develop a healthy and efficient embouchure, whether you are a beginner or for those who have taken time off from horn playing.

A healthy daily practice routine filled with fundamentals is an essential contributing factor to successful horn playing.  Exercises discussed in lessons will include: harmonic series, scales, flexibility, and Caruso, to name a few.  Aspects of ear training and music theory will also be discussed in lessons, as appropriate.  Areas such as college-prep,  performance anxiety and developing audition and interview skills are also addressed.

Please email me at amandashornstudio@gmail.com or call me at 561-870-4891. I am always happy to chat about horn.
